Songjiang, once called Huating in ancient times, also known as Yunjian, Rongcheng, and Gushui, is a fꦕamous town south of the Yangtze River. In 751 of the Tang Dynasty, Songjiang was named Huating County. In 1277 during the Yuan Dynasty, it was named Huating Prefecture, which was changed to Songjiang Prefecture the next year. Then in 1805 in the Qing Dynasty, it was developed into Songjiang Prefecture with Huating, Shanghai, Qingpu, Lou, Fengxian, Jinshan, Nanhui, and Chuansha Counties subject to it. In 1912, when the prefecture was abolished, Huating and Lou were merged into Huating County of Jiangsu Province. In 1914, Huating County was changed to Songjiang County. After liberation, the area became Songjiang Special District. In March 1958, it was merged into Suzhou Spec꧋ial District, and in November, Songjiang became a county of Shanghai. Then in February 1998, the State Council approved Songjiang to be a district.

Songjiang’s water resources come from the Huangpu River, which gets its water from Dianshan Lake, Taihu Lake, and Tia♏nmu Mountain in Zhejiang Province, and then pours into the sea. All the rivers in the area are tidal, the tides rise and fall twice every day and night.

To promote integrated elderly care in the Yangtze River Delta, Songjiang, together with Jiaxing and Xuancheng, jointly released the list of 38 remote elderly care institutions, 6 integrated elderly care training bases, and 97 recommended scenic spots for elderly tourism. Adjustment of the service charge price of pension institutions was completed. By the end of 2021, there were 24 elderly care institutions, 9 elderly care homes, and 8,420 nursing beds in the district, adopting 4,961 people of all kinds. In the whole year, 0.4009 million times of home-based elderly care services were provided, and 10,000 elderly people were provided with family mutual assistance services (elde💖r partner plan project).

In 2021, the total number of new and high-tech enterprises in the zone reached 1,041, ranking third in Shanghai. The total number of high-tech enterprises in the district reached 2,306, with a year-on-year increase of 31.4%, ranking third in Shanghai. The net increase of high-tech enterprises has quadrupled in five years, reaching 551 in 2021. Eleven sci-tech enterprises were approved by the 2021 Shanghai Sci-tech Little Giant Project (including cultivated enterprises), ranking third in Shanghai. There were 156 small giant enterprises in the district (including cultivated enterprises). In 2020, R&D expenditure amounted to 7.516 billion yuan, representing a year-on-year increase of 10.2% and an investment intensity of 4.59%, 0.27% higher than that of 3.98% in 2019 and 0.42% higher than the average level of Shanghai. In 2021, there were 15 newly built schools in the district, with a total investment of 590 million yuan, an increase of 56.5% over the previous year. The proportion of children in public kindergartens reached 68.4%, and the three-year coverage rate of inclusive preschool education reached 91%. The district firmly grasped the “five management”, implemented the “double reduction” policy to the letter, and reduced the proportion of training institutions in compulsory education in the whole region by 95%. A new pattern of compact group schooling led by three municipal experimental demonstration high schools was created. InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland is innovative design work. It took 12 years to finish the construction of the hotel. This novel hotel follows the natural environment and make𒉰s full use of the curved surface of the quarry rock face to hang and build on it. Sheshan National Forest Park is the only natural mountainous forest touring site in Shanghai. The Park covers an area of 267 acres with 79.44% of the𒅌 scenic spot covered by forests. There are 12 hills in the park, stretching their way from the southwest to the northeast, like a string of jade pearls with a total length of 13km, offering Shanghai’s flat land a mountainous view. In June 1993, the former National Ministry of Forestry approved the establishment of Sheshan National Forest Park. In 2001, it was honored as 🔯one of the first national 4A-level touring sites. The scenic spots that opened to the public are East Sheshan Hill Park, West Sheshan Hill Park, Tianmashan Hill Park, and Xiaokunshan Hill Park.

Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden is in Sheshan National 🎉Tourist Resort (No.3888 Chenhua Highway). It is created through collaboration between the Shanghai Municipal Government, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and the State Forestry Administration, which combines scientific research, popular science, and sightseeing purpose. This remarkable 207-hectare botanical garden is the largest one in East China. Chenshan Ancient Site in the garden was announced by Shanghai Municipal Government as a cultural relics protection unit of Shanghai in April 2014. The site was first found in early 2009, covering an area of about 16 hectares. It is preliminaril𒅌y determined to be an ancient cultural site in the Shang and Zhou dynasties.
The botanical garden consists of four functional areas: the central exhibition area, the plant conservation area, the plant areas on five continents, and the peripheral buffer zone. The exhibition greenhouse covers an area of 12,608 square meters. It consists of Tropical Flower and Fruit Museum, Sand Botany Museum, and Exotic Botany Museum. It is the largest exhibition greenhouse group in Asia💎. Among them, Sand Botany Museum is the largest indoor sand botany exhibition hall in the world. Now Chenshan Botanical Garden is a national 4A-level scenic spot.

Established in 1978, Shanghai Square Pagoda Park covers an area of 182 mu. Its original site was the downtown of Huating during the Tang and Song Dynasties. There are 8 national, municipal, and district unmovable cultural relics in the park, including Xingshengjiao Temple Pagoda, which was announced as national key culturaꦯl relics protection unit by the State Council in November 1996; Lanrui Hall, Screen Wall of Engraved Bricks, Chen Huacheng Memorial Temple, Temple of the Queen of Heaven and Wangxian Bridge were announced as Shanghai municipal cultural relics protection unit in April 2014, Stone Statues of Ming Dynasty, Front Hall of Zhang’s Residence were announced as Songjiang district relics protection unit in June 2013.
Th💝e entire landscape is centered on the Square Pagoda of Northern Song Dynasty, surrounded by the Wangxian Bridge of Southern Song Dynasty, Screen Wall of Engraved Bricks of Ming Dynasty, Lanrui Hall, stone 💝carving garden, Temple of the Queen of Heaven, Chen Huacheng Memorial Hall, Helou Veranda, Qichang Corridor and so on. The park is rated as a national 4A-level scenic spot.

With an area of 76 mu, Shanghai Zuibaichi Park is one of the five ancient gardens in Shanghai. There are two immovable cultural relics in the park, including Zuibaichi, which was announced as Shanghai municipal cultural relics protection unit in April 2014; Woodcarving Hall, which was announced as Songjiang County Cultural Relics Protection Unit in July 1985. The predecessor of the garden was Guyang Garden, the residence of Zhu Zhichun, a jinshi (a successful candidate in the highest imperial examinations) in the Song Dynasty. The garden was also a place for Dong Qichang (a famous calligrapher and painter in Ming Dynasty) to drink and write poems. 370 years ago, during the period of Shunzhi of the Qing Dynasty, it was a private villa of Gu Dashen, chief of the Ministry of Works, he rebuilt the garden and changed its name to “Zuibaichi” because he worshipped Bai Juyi (poet of the Tang dynasty). The garden has many pavilions, terraces, and open halls such as Letian Xuan (a small room or veranda with windows) of the Song Dynasty, Simian (four sides) Hall, Yi Fang (a boat-shaped building), Reading Hall of the Ming Dynasty, and C✱ottage above the Pool, Xuehai Hall, Baocheng Building, Woodcarving Hall of the Qing Dyn🌄asty. Art treasures such as stone carvings of Zhao Mengfu's calligraphy authentic works “Visit to the Red Cliff” of Yuan Dynasty and steles of “Portraits of Excellent Talents in Yunjian” of Qing Dynasty are collected in the park. Guangfulin Site of Ancient Culture is in the north of Songjiang New City, it spans Longyuan Road to the east, Guangfulin Road to the south, Shenjing River to the west, and North Yinze Road to the north. Covering an area of about 850 mu, it is the most abundant and valuable among 29 cultural sites in Shanghai. There are three immovable cultural relics on the site, including Guangfulin Site of Ancient Culture, which was announced as national key cultural relics protection unit by the State Council in May 2013; Chen Zilong Tomb, which was announced as Shanghai municipal cultural relics protection unit in November 1987; Zhiye Bridge, which was announced🐻 as Songjiang district cultural relics protection point in January 2016.
The site takes the protection zone of the archaeological site as its core and presents its original form with farming ecological culture and authentic rural scenery. The profound culture is the core competitiveness of Guangfulin, which includes a cultural display area, a folk display area, a religious display area, an archeological site exhibition hall, and a porcelain kiln exhibition hall. Guangfulin Country Park is built around the five core elements of “field, water, road, forest, and village”, and is based on the natural ecological landscape of farming. The block is divided into 12 areas, such as a rape flower field, green field trail, forest oxygen bar, Laolaiqing rice field, and leisurely trail in the paddy. Shanghai Pujiang River Source Scenic Spot is the starting point of Shanghai’s mother river, Huangpu River, also known as the “Zero Kilometer of Huangpu River”. The Xietang River and Yuanxiejing Creek, which meander from Jiangsu and Zhejiang, converge here to form a delta-shaped treasure land and flow into Huangpu River through Hengliaojing Creek. At the confluence of the three rivers, the river is vast, the sailboats in the river competing for the current, the nets rising and falling by the river, the reeds on the bund swaying, the pink peaches and green willows setting each other off. These breeds the endless scenery of a water town in the south of the Yangtze River, from which the scenic spot got its name “Pujiang River Source”. The whole scenic spot is divided into two parts: the aboveground part is “Shu-Liu-Li-Yun Pagoda” and “Chunshen Hall”, while the underground part is “Water Culture Exhibition Hall”. In the scenic area, the architectu𒉰ral style of cantilever beam and bucket arch exude classical charm, while the glazed tiles of French windows unfold modern fashion pleasure. Shanghai Moon Lake Sculpture Park is in Sheshan National Tourist Resort. It is an artistic landscape park that integrates modern sculpture, architectural art, natural landscape, and high-end rest and entertainment. Composing of Xiaosheshan Hill, Moon Lake, and the hinterland surrounding Moon Lake, the park covers an area of 1,300 mu with 465 mu of Moon Lake as the center. The lakeside is divided into four coastal areas with different fea♛tures spring, summer, autumn, and winter. At present, more than 30 world sculptures from Europe, America, Japan, and China are adorned in the natural landscape, showing the concept of “returning to nature and enjoying the art” of the park, and creating a beautiful art paradise. The Park is now a national 4A-level scenic spot.

Fishing and Recreation Center in Shanghai Western Fishing Village takes up a land of over 600 mu and is one of the best-equipped fishing centers in eastern China. Located at No.3000 Shenzhuan Highway in Sheshan Town, also the southwest side of Tianma Entrance and Exit of G1503 Shanghai Ring Expressway, Shanghai Tianma Circuit covers an area of about 230 mu. Inaugurated in 2004, the circuit is an F4 track certified by FIA. Songjiang Museum is a local chronicles museum, where the historical relics in Songjiang are collected, researched, and exhibited. 𒈔The 2-storey exhibition room covers an area of 1,200 square meters. The basic exhibition of “Treasures Buried in the Sand”, which is divided into 3 portions named “Dawn of Huangpu River”, “Glisten of the Historical River” and “Painting Arts”, is on the second floor. The exhibition scientifically shows the cultural relics, which are held in the museum and unearthed in Songjiang, and reflects the achievements during the different periods of social development combined with landscape restoration, lightbox, multimedia, and other auxiliary display methods. The first floor is a temporary exhibition hall, and various special exhibitions are held from time to time. Located on the east and west sides outside the exhi🐬bition hall, the Stele Gallery is composed of long corridors and tablet pavilions. The East Stele Gallery displays the historical materials and inscriptions of Songjiang Prefecture during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The West Stele Gallery displays the calligraphic art inscriptions of Zhao Mengfu, Dong Qichang, and Shen Quan.
唐经幢
Sutra Pillar of the Tang Dynasty
松江唐经幢(chuang)(chuang)座(zuo)落(luo)松江中山初级(ji)小学校校内(nei)内(nei)，1987年一月被(bei)浙(zhe)江省人民政府颁布(bu)为全(quan)球重点村(cun)历史(shi)文(wen)物保证机关单位。建于唐大(da)中第十十年（859年），是存世伤害最最古的地坪施(shi)工(gong)。经幢(chuang)(chuan💟g)21级(ji)，高9.3米，八(ba)(ba)棱八(ba)(ba)面，故又称之(zhi)为为八(ba)(ba)棱碑，称为“唐经幢(chuang)(chuang)”，別名“石塔(ta)”。
Sutra Pillar of the Tang Dynasty is located at the campus of Zhongshan Primary School, Songjiang. In January 1988, it was announced by the State Council as a national key cultural relics protection unit. Established in 859, the pillar is the oldest ground building in Shanghai. The pillar is built 🐟of 21 stone blocks with a height of 9.3 meters. With eight ridges and eight slides, it is also known as the Eight-Ridge Pillar, commonly known as the “Sutra Pillar of the Tang Dynasty”, also known as the “St🔜one Pillar”.
大仓桥

大(da)仓(cang)(cang)桥(qiao)地处永(yong)丰(feng)街道办中宁夏路仓(cang)(cang)桥(qiao)弄南，201历(li)经四年4月(yue)被(bei)公布(bu)了为天(tian)津市中国文物防护基层单位(wei)，有的是座高10余米(mi)，夸度50余米(mi)的五🍰孔桥(qiao)拱大(da)石桥(q𝓡iao)。桥(qiao)真名(ming)永(yong)丰(feng)，因桥(qiao)南为松江(jiang)府漕(cao)运仓(cang)(cang)城，故学名(ming)大(da)仓(cang)(cang)桥(qiao)。现(xian)为天(tian)津省市广(guang)为人知的明清大(da)石桥(qiao)之首。
Located at Ca𓃲ngqiao Lane South, West Zhongshan Road in Yongfeng Sub-district, Dacang Bridge was announced as Shanghai municipal cultural relics protection unit in April 2014. The bridge spans 50 meters long and 10 meters high over the river. It was formerly known as Yongfeng Bridge and later named Dacang Bridge for there was Water Transport Warehouse City of Songjiang Prefecture to the south of the bridge. It is one of the famous big stone bridges of the Ming Dynasty in Shanghai.

松江清(qing)真寺(si)设在岳阳(yang)城(cheng)市路道桥(qiao)居委🌄会(hui)缸甏巷75号，1980年(nian)11月(yue)被展示为北(bei)京(jing)市文物保护(hu)机关单(dan)位(wei)(wei)性(xing)机关单(dan)位(wei)(wei)保护(hu)性(xing)机关单(dan)位(wei)(wei)，是(shi)北(bei)京(jing)的(de)地(di)方(fa🅷ng)时间(jian)最(zui)早(zao)的(de)伊斯(si)兰教(jiao)佛寺(si)，建(jian)(jian)于于元至正末年(nian)（134在一年(nian)—1366年(nian)），初名(ming)真教(jiao)寺(si)。明代十六(liu)国(guo)时间(jian)历(li)经重复修(xiu)葺(qi)和(he)开(kai)工建(jian)(jian)设，因而，现(xian)在的(de)中国(guo)的(de)清(qing)真寺(si)有(you)着元代十六(liu)国(guo)时间(jian)的(de)房(fang)建(jian)(jian)极简(jian)风格，又有(you)明代几代的(de)房(fang)建(jian)(jian)苏州(zhou)(zhou)杭州(zhou)(zhou)特色。依(yi)据房(fang)建(jian)(jian)大(da)有(you)殿、窑殿、穿(chuan)廊，另有(you)南(nan)、北(bei)讲坛，邦克(ke)门等，在这其中窑殿和(he)邦克(ke)门两个地(di)方(fang)最(zui)具该寺(si)房(fang)建(jian)(jian)苏州(zhou)(zhou)杭州(zhou)(zhou)特色。
Located at No.75 Gangbeng Alley, Maluqiao Neighborhood Com෴mittee in Yueyang Sub-district, Songjiang Mosque was announced as Shanghai municipal cultural relics protection unit in August 1980. As one of the oldest mosques in Shanghai, Songjiang Mosque was built during 1341-1368, als🍃o named Zhenjiao Mosque. After many renovations and expansions during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the mosque today features the style of construction of the Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties. The main buildings include Central Hall, Kiln Hall, Crossing Corridor, North and South Speech Hall, and Bangke Chamber. Among them, the Kiln Hall and Bangke Chamber can best represent the traits of the Mosque.
西林禅寺
Xilin Temple
西(xi)林(lin)禅寺(si)(si)(si)，全名(ming)是(shi)(shi)崇恩寺(si)(si)(si)，建于南宋咸淳年(nian)(nian)代(dai)（1265—127几(ji)年(nian)(nian)）。明洪武(wu🍰)二是(shi)(shi)年(nian)(nian)（138☂8年(nian)(nian)）新建，是(shi)(shi)在岳(yue)阳街(jie)道(dao)社(she)区中(zhong)林(lin)中(zhong)路(lu)66-6。明正统皇敕封时赐名(ming)“大宋西(xi)林(lin)禅寺(si)(si)(si)”。正殿侧门有很大塔(ta)(ta)，名(ming)圆(yuan)应宝塔(ta)(ta)，熟称“西(xi)林(lin)塔(ta)(ta)”。圆(yuan)应塔(ta)(ta)（西(xi)林(lin)塔(ta)(ta)）1982年(nian)(nian)10月被出炉(lu)为伤害市(shi)文物(wu)庇护庇护计量(liang)单位。塔(ta)(ta)身七层八面，砖(zhuan)木组成，塔(ta)(ta)高46.5米，到目前为止仍为伤害省(sheng)市(shi)最底的座古(gu)塔(ta)(ta)。
Located at No.666 Middle Zhongshan Road in Yueyang Sub-district, Xilin Temple, also known as Chong’en Temple, was originally built during 1265-1274 and reconstructed in 1387. In Ming Dynasty, an emperor named it as Xilin Temple of Ming. B🍬ehind the main hall, there stands a 46.5-meter-high, 7-storey octagonal pagoda of brick and wood structure, which is called Yuanying Pagoda, also well-known as Xilin Pagoda. Announced as Shanghai municipa꧟l cultural relics protection unit in September 1982, this pagoda is the tallest ancient pagoda in Shanghai.
